Historic child sexual abuse - Police examination

I'm 41 years old, at the age of 7 I was sexual abused by a teenage boy. The police were called and I was taken to a police station where I was subjected to a physical examination.

I have spent my life dealing with the trauma from both the abuse and the examination. There was no after care or follow up like there would be today.

I'm wondering if there is any way that I can get the report on the examination?
And also if there is any chance of compensation? Should I contact the police station in question and simply ask if they still have the file on that report/examination?

Wanted to keep this short but hope I've given enough detail to get some answers/advice.

Have you looked into a CICA claim? The records are unlikely to still be in existence however if you contact the disclosure department of your police force they may be able to tell you definitively.

Things have moved on hugely in terms of how these examinations were conducted 30+ years to now. was it done by a police surgeon or a paediatrician? i appreciate you may not remember. i think it's unlikely any records remain of this but you could do a Subject Access Request on the off chance there is a file sitting somewhere. it may be a lot of work to track down but doable. in terms of compensation i can't comment but finding the medical record may be a good starting point.
if you lived in a smallish area with only one local hospital where the doctor could have come from the Subject Access Team there would be a start or maybe PALS to get some support with this process. it should be easy to establish what the police force was at that time (some may have changed in the interim) and speak to the victim support unit in the first instance for help to access records with them.
good luck!
