Passport renewal without old passport trough birth certificate

Hey all,
I lost my old passport and out of personal family reason this was the only ID/Passport I ever owned, as such would it be possible to get a new one trough the showcase of my birth certificate that verifies my nationality?
(I read online that you would need the birth/death certificate of your parent(s) but this would be very hard as my getting the death certificate of my father is near impossible since I am on bad terms with his family, same for my mothers birth certificate, and yes I am over 18, I live with the Grandparents of my mother but I am not officially adopted, all people mentioned above have the british citizenship).

I hope you guys can help me as the Goverment site does not hold any information on this and their email/phone support is very bad.

Is this for a U.K. passport? Was your lost passport an adult or child passport?

You can order copies of birth and death certificates here, BTW. You don't need contact with the family.

You can't apply via the "first adult passport" route if you've ever held a British passport before.

You need to report the missing passport list and then apply for a renewal.

JeandeServiette · 26/06/2023 03:33

Sorry. Report it as LOST (not list).

You won't need the birth and death certificates. They will trace the record of your previous passport.

A U.K Child Passport, I would have to get a new Adult one, that being my first Adult one.
Also, if I report it missing the website tells me I am unable to use the "1-Day Premium Servce", as I would need this Passport relatively urgently (less than 10 weeks) does this include ALL of the Premium faster services or only the 1-Day one? (as they also have the 1 week thingy).

If you've had a child's passport then it's still a renewal that you're after.

JeandeServiette · 26/06/2023 23:21

You have no choice other than to report the child one missing and do a renewal.

dementedpixie · 26/06/2023 23:37

Report it lost, do a renewal
You will need a countersignature to verify who you are

LindenSauce · 27/06/2023 00:59

In that case is there no way around getting it faster than the "up to 10 weeks" other than finding my last Passport?

Sorry, I didn't see the last message.
If the 1 week service works that would be perfect, disregard my last message and thanks a lot for the help!

We needed a child to adult passport renewal urgently for job reasons for my grandson. He did have the old one though but it needed a countersignatory,. We were advised not to take the chance he still looked like his child passport. I had to ring the helpline a few times about the countersignatory, photos etc.

This renewal did not allow for a same day passport. We then booked an online appointment and had a ten day wait. It allows for 30 mins appointment but grandson was in for about five. This was the Wednesday and the passport arrived on the Friday. I think it was around £150 so factor this in. Its £193 for same day. We travelled a five hour round trip. We went to Durham as Liverpool is a nightmare to get through.

I also had it checked at the post office to ensure everything was ok. It should have been £16 but they did not charge us as it only took minutes to scan. We have heard of renewals coming back in very good time but these are straightforward ones. Good luck.

As I do not have my old passport I would have to order a replacement not a renewal tho no?
But is that really the correct option considering it would need an adult and not child passport like my last one? And would the replacement already be renewed or would they give me the exact same one that is already expired? (I don't think they would but who knows with this country...)

If the old one had expired it is a renewal.

KickboxingWanker · 27/06/2023 14:35

If you lost your old passport you need to report it lost.
Then you need to apply for a replacement (not renewal) adult ppt.
you can use the fasttrack service for a replacement - but you need to report the old one lost first.
You will get a new 10 year adult ppt.

dementedpixie · 27/06/2023 14:38

A replacement is basically the same as a renewal. You get a new 10 year passport. You need to report the old one lost and will need a countersignature for the new one

KateyCuckoo · 27/06/2023 14:59

Have you actually started the application online? It asks you a few basic questions and then tells you what passport you need and how to do it and what to send.

It should be reported as lost and a renewal done to replace it. A countersignature will be required
