Royal Mail redirection moved house driving tickets help?

Jessie1995 · 17/03/2023 07:58

Hi,
couldn’t find an exact answer online so wondering if anybody could help!

I have set up Royal Mail redirection for 6 months and have recently moved house. Would things such as speeding/driving related fines/letters etc all be redirected to me ok?

( I don’t even think I’ve been caught at all) I’m just a worrier and had a panic after reading online some things don’t get redirected If they say ‘ do not redirect on’ the letters. But not sure if driving related letters/fines have this on.

i have changed my v5c now but wanted to know if anybody knew the answer to stop my worrying haha!

thank you

Why are you worrying about things that haven't happened?

Sapphirering · 17/03/2023 08:55

Yes they will be redirected. If you want to you can extend the redirection for another few months once this ends

I’m just a very anxious driver and always think I do things wrong even though 9/10 I don’t!! So I just had a mild panic when it said not all post gets redirected when paying for the redirection thing!

Thanks so anything like fines/ speeding tickets/ car related stuff will get redirected? Thanks I may keep doing it after this ends just incase of other stuff! But v5c etc is all changed now anyway! Was more about since moving whether those things would have still been redirected! Thank you

I almost certain that those kind of letters would be redirected. It's very very few things that they cannot redirect, there is a list on the Royal Mail website. You have done everything correctly, stop worrying.

It doesn’t really state other than ‘ letters that have ‘ do not redirect on’ them and I don’t know if driving related fines/tickets have that on? I would assume it’s things that are very personal to you that can’t be redirected perhaps!
Thank you I just worried that I hadn’t changed my v5c yet after moving but at least I set up the redirection!

Do panic. Royal Mail redirection in place last year and I didn't realise the ULEZ zone had been extended. Four penalties and none arrived in post. Only found out when checking something else and it cost us £480.

Oh no!! That’s so bad! Even with your redirection in place!? I’ve changed my details over to new place now but that was my worry!

@Jessie1995 I recommend redirecting for 15 months. 12months so you catch once a year items and a further 3 months to allow for post you missed updating because you were sorting out so much when you moved.

I’ve just realised some of my stuff is under a shortened version of my name, on the redirection I would have put my full name ( not shortened ) version. Do you think this would matter? Surname and everything else is the same?

You should have just updated your driving license. It's free and easy!

@Jessie1995 your initials surname and former address should be fine.

I've not moved for a long time, but then, it needed to match the name specified in the redirection.

'Ms Nicola Jane Duff' would not redirect mail addressed to Nicky Duff.

I put my full name and former address down. But have realised some of my post ( the odd bit) was under a shortened version of my first name which I didn’t list on the redirection form? But it would the same initials and same surname? So should be still ok and seen as same name id assume?? Thank you!

You'll be ok, @Jessie1995 . Don't forget to update your driving licence.

It would be same initials and all my post is for ‘miss’…. I just put ‘ miss first middle last name on the redirect form. But found some post with shortened version of the first name. But all would same initials and same surname? Thanks have done so now!

Miss J N Ninetyfive should be ok.
When I had my mail redirected, someone decided that they knew better than me what my name was. I rang to complain and was told 'I know how to spell Kristeen'. I had to point out that as it wasn't my name, that was hardly relevant.

For example my name is miss Victoria smith.. i put that on my redirection form. However some of my letters are to ‘ miss Vicky smith’
so same surname and an obvious shortened version. But I’m now worrying?

You can get a huge fine for not updating your address on your driving license. Do that and then any fines will get sent to your new address.

whataballbag · 17/03/2023 20:06

Speeding fines and tickets don't have 'do not redirect' on them ☺️

With regards to the name, I would hope there would be some element of common sense with regards to the shortened, especially if it's a common shortening.

Thank you for this! & yes it’s a really common simple shortening. For example ( not my
name) but I put on the redirection form ‘miss Victoria smith’ but one of my Mail I have realised was ‘ miss Vicky smith’ do you think this would still be ok and still get redirected to me?

Royal Mail messed up my redirection so much that I've just received my third lot of compensation which was the full amount paid. Still three months to go.

Oh dear!! Do you know anything about names though? If I have some post with my shortened first name will that matter?
for example on the form I put ‘miss Victoria smith’ but some of my mail is ‘miss Vicky smith’ will that still get to me ok?

I wouldn't worry. We had a speeding ticket and lived in our house 3 years. It still never came and we knew nothing until a letter came saying we were going to court for ignoring two previous letters! We never received them. In the end £400 fine and 3 points. I worry now about it happening again but my point is that it's a house we already lived in!

We have had name variances redirected and initials. To be honest it seems to depend on the post person and how on the ball they are.
