Divorce when family home is a B&B

Can anyone please advise me on whether anything should be done differently in a divorce when the family home is a bed and breakfast? Would it simply have to be sold and the sale price divided between the divorcing spouses (assuming neither could afford to buy the other’s share)? This would leave neither spouse with enough money to buy another B&B so would effectively put them out of work as well as out of their home.

Thank you very much for any insight. It’s a horrible situation.

It will go into the pot to be divided between you. That doesn't necessarily mean it will have to be sold. You need to consult a solicitor to get some idea of the likely split and what that would mean for the B&B business.

Thanks very much - it’s not me but friends. I’m trying to persuade them to get legal advice but they don’t seem to be thinking straight. There is nothing in “the pot” apart from the house/B&B so I guess, from what you say, it will have to be sold. What a terrible shame.
