Got myself in to a bit of a mess

And done something really silly.

I was caught doing a driving offence months and months ago. Due to money issues one thing led to another and this was not paid by me, no real excuses at all

And today when I was out and about the police came to my door, with a warrant for an arrest in my name, which means I will need to go down to the police station. I know I been very silly and must have thrown letters away without opening them, but I honestly had no idea I was supposed to be in court.

Well I did advise I would be yes, and was explained to me I would be arrested on arrival there

Kerrrmieee · 28/08/2022 20:29

I had a knock at the door - turns out there had been a warrant out for my arrest for 6 months!

I'm no hardened criminal

I hadn't taxed my car until 5 days after it was due. Somebody had reported me (this was years ago). I'd just moved house, car was written off in an accident 3 weeks later, scrapped, and I didn't give another thought but neither had I updated license address because I wasn't driving.

Had to go to Magistrates court - stand in the dock, swear and Bible and just jibber like a quivering wreck. I was told I was free to go and had a fine of about 140£? I think. Total waste on man hours and money.

But yeah, shit me up 🤣

Kerrrmieee · 28/08/2022 20:32

I'm guessing the court officer that finally found me arrested me. It's a bit of a blur! He was very nice though, has a cup of tea, sat on sofa whilst I'm saying son will be home in 20 mins so let's pretend you're offering a new broadband deal 🤣😭

lesleykerry · 28/08/2022 20:34

Kerrrmieee an experience like that would shit you up

One other thing running through my head right now on top of everything else is last night and today I have developed a sore throat, and also a bit of runny nose, I would do a COVID test, but currently do not have any on me

I know it would be sensible therefore to wear a mask when going to the police station, though wary of the fact it could be COVID, though of course maybe not

Could you possibly get one on the way to the station or if you go just mention to them and I’m sure they would find you one

Cant think of anywhere to get one if I went there early morningish, probably would need to say on arrival I think, I could be jumping to conclusions of course, though had a couple of friends in the last week or so who tested positive

I didn't pay a speeding fine, didn't get as far as the police knocking on my door but just got 4 points instead of 3 & an increased fine. Don't forget to take your driving licence with you when you hand yourself in.

Thanks, will have it in my coat pocket if they ask for this which they could very well do

Best of luck, I’m sure it will be dealt with quickly and you’ll have it over and done with soon.

Thank u very much

I hope this is the case, though think I will be in for a long night tonight

Almost thinking to myself I should have went down there tonight and got the ball rolling in a way, instead of waiting til tomorrow

Maybe not the best of ideas though to try and calm my nerves and hopefully get a better sleep I started to have a few glasses of wine, along with a few ciggies

Not the best of ideas I know, though kinda hoping if I get through tonight and tomorrow I might have a better chance of sleeping tomorrow night

Understand the temptation but you don't need to face the court hungover. Can you go for a walk or take a hot bath/shower instead?

I did go for a hot shower and took your advice, now of course after an hour or two of sleep I am wide awake

Just a thought...it's a bank holiday. Is the court sitting today? If you hand yourself in on a warrant that's not backed for bail you'll be put before the next available court...worth checking that's today and not tomorrow.

bluejelly · 29/08/2022 03:36

Sorry to hear you are awake. If you can't sleep maybe try and read, listen to calming music or (if you really can't sleep) get up and do something like cleaning or sorting out your sock drawer. Anything to distract your brain.
It will be fine tomorrow, if really will Flowers

I am in Scotland, and as far as I know although some people have it off it is not really classified as a public holiday up here and there will be courts on

Got my clothes on half an hour ago, and went for a quick walk as well for a bit of fresh air, felt like I needed it

GetOffTheRoof · 29/08/2022 08:07

Hopefully OP is already there. If she goes after 0900 there's a risk they won't get her into court today if it's a full list.

Campervangirl · 29/08/2022 08:21

Charge your phone, make sure you have your purse with some money and a bank card, take a bottle of water, your driving licence and a book.
Good luck op

lesleykerry · 29/08/2022 18:37

Back home now, so I went to the station just after 6am this morning, and after being arrested on arrival I was kept in the cells for a good few hours, then handcuffed and put in a van to be taken go the court, earliest time I could get to court was 2pm

Not the nicest of days at all as u can imagine ,was awful.

Thank each of you for your kind messages last night and today

I'm so glad you're home. That must have been a very unsettling experience. Any word on your "punishment?" Do you have to pay a fine?

Yes I do have to pay a fine of £750

Very unsettling experience the whole thing like you say, though I should not have got myself into this mess
