Council building a 4 storey tower block in a small space 10 feet away from my mid terraced property

Hi All, I need some advice please. I received a letter from our council in a leafy green part of SE London. They are building a 4 storey tower block right in the middle of our cul-de-sac where about 45 families live in mid terrace properties. The land is just 10 feet outside my bedroom window and currently has a community centre. It will need demolishing and following that years of pain and misery to have a tower block blocking our light and no space for kids to paly or kick a ball. The area is heavily built up anyway. There has been no regards to our lives and our health in this matter and the council seem to be bent on carrying this out. How do I stop it? Please help as I haven't slept in days and its affecting my mental health. Any advice will be appreciated.

Nope, everyone protested vociferously when the application was up on the portal. Now we wait :(

Yes it actually is. There is a housing crisis and there is some spare land near your house. The apartments need to be built and you are trying to block it. You might find that it decreases your property value by a significant amount though. oh well.

Serena73 · 25/05/2023 19:19

Invasion of privacy? 10 feet is very close and could mean that they can see into your property far too easily and that you can't have the curtains open. Study the plans very well!

bellac11 · 25/05/2023 19:38

I dont understand, the flats are opposite the houses across the road?

How is that close to your house?

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 25/05/2023 20:56

@Heytheredeliah on brown fill spaces yes, in the middle of a cul de sac? Dont be silly

There are houses behind my house already and now the council wants to put a tower block right in front of the house :(

I've lived in a flat and wouldn't want to be squashed into a green bit in the
Middle of a cup de sac! It sounds like it will be oppressive and overlooked for everyone I can't understand how anyone thinks it's a good idea!! We need more housing but it needs to be decent!

A lot of people would've mind. Just because you would not like it doesn't mean everyone would feel like that. A lot of people would be happy to have somewhere to live. I think that the OP will come off a lot worse.

onthefence23 · 25/05/2023 21:53

Well yes, it would definitely be somewhere better to live than no where 🙈 it just sounds really odd from the description!! Not ideal for the existing residents or new flat residents tbh not sure why you seem so upset by the op no one would want someone looking in their window

10 feet directly in front of your house? Are you sure about the measurements?

What is currently directly in front of your house? You say there's a community centre on the land at the moment. Surely that is 10 feet from your front window at the moment, no?

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 25/05/2023 22:03

@DontMakeMeShushYou there is a small green space about 20m by 20 m wide and the community center is then on the land. Its quiet small about another 20m by 20 m. I am amazed that the council thought it was a good idea t plonk a tower block in the middle

@Heytheredeliah can you not just read a book? You arent relying to my question, just going on about your agenda, stat your own thread
