Reported husband to police for a crime - does the Witness Charter apply to me?

Deliberately vague, apologies.
I found evidence of husband committing criminal activity. Took the evidence to police and reported him. My memory of that day is a bit blurry, but I am fairly certain I stated very clearly to the police that I was afraid of his reaction and he was controlling and emotionally abusive. Police released him under investigation without bail conditions, i.e. he was allowed to return home. It was the scariest situation of my life. He's now left the house but continues to try and control me.

My questions:

  • did the police act incorrectly by allowing him to return home?
  • am I covered by the witness charter at this stage?
  • can I ask the police to impose pre-charge bail conditions of no contact with the witness, i.e. me?

I realise I have the option of applying for a non mol. But I'd prefer it if the police imposed restrictions rather than me because of the potential for escalation when he reads my personal statement listing his abusive behaviours.

I'd be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

many thanks for your advice.
