Conveyancing and family law solicitor

My husband and I are divorced and have a legal consent order in place. We are trying to sell the house but many conveyancing solicitors are unable to help due to the fact we are divorced and they don’t specialise in family law.

What is the need for a family lawyer in selling the house? I’m confused.

There isn't one. If the divorce process and consent order are complete it's largely irrelevant. Perhaps it's the way you're explaining the initial enquiry to them?

You may be right, thank you for clarifying.

I agree, don’t bother mentioning the fact that you’re divorced at the initial stage. They do need to be made aware once you have a buyer so that they issue 2 separate payments for the net proceeds of sale.

I recommend that you provide them with a copy of the consent order so they know exactly how to divide the proceeds.

Lovely, thank you. I am in that position now, have accepted an offer on our property.
