I fostered an elderly rescue dog and the rescue have sent me a £3k county court form?

On the 8th April 2020 a friend sent me a message asking if I had room to take in an elderly dog who's owner had died. He was poorly, overweight and due to be pts if a foster place couldn't be found.

I hadnt heard of the rescue before, a FB msg group was set up for us all to talk about the process. The rescue knew nothing about the dog, hadn't met him but did send a driver to collect him and drive him to us during the first lock down.

Apart from messenger I had no other contact for the rescue. I spent over £1200 on vet bills, food and comfort toys inc orthopaedic beds and natural remedies. I did sign a foster agreement.

It was agreed I would adopt him but I didn't receive a contact. Unfortunately the poor boy took a turn for the worst and the vet advised pts, which we did in Aug. During April and August they had a vet nurse on the group chat advising against the vets treatment, urging us to complain and sending us treatment cards via msg of what she would be doing at her surgery, it was very stressful.

I received a solicitor letter which I responded to - apparently, I wasn't authorised to get treatment or make decisions even though we agreed I had adopted him 1 month prior to becoming so poorly and kept them all up to date with what was happening.

Today I've received a county court money claim form and I don't know what to do next, I've attached a picture of the claim for a dog the rescue never met, never assessed or paid for anything towards his day to day care for the 5 months I paid for everything because I wanted to.

I do have some screen shots of conversations but the have deleted the main group chat and the vet is refusing an information request due to being to involved - we disagree with some of the comments made as we weren't made aware of what treatment they carried out due to lock down and not being able to be present with our dog.

I fostered an elderly rescue dog and the rescue have sent me a £3k county court form?

I hope everything went well op.

oakleaffy · 25/11/2022 12:57

It’s shocking how any dishonest person with an eye for money can set up a “Rescue”.
They are after £3k
Imagine the other potential “Adopters” they are pulling this stunt on.

These bogus “Rescues” need exposing for the scams they are.

LostForWords2021 · 25/11/2022 13:02

They didn’t show up.

the judge noted, from the newspaper articles I had sent in (thanks to a wonderful MN’er) that the “rescues” solicitor firm closed

one of many articles here

so, the rescue wasn’t represented and had not filed any documentation. He did have the rescue owners mobile number and attempted to call them to add them to the meet me meeting but they failed to answer the call.

it’s over. 2 years of tears of grief and worry

RIP to the gentlest dog I have ever had the pleasure to love, sleep peaceful Bruce you are truly missed 💕

I am so glad this is over for you and you can finally get around to grieving properly for that beautiful dog. You've done a wonderful thing and been treated terribly Flowers

FFS, really? Sticking the boot in is a dick move, here you go:

compassion

/kəmˈpaʃ(ə)n/

noun

sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

"the victims should be treated with compassion"

Go and shit on someone else's life - just because you don't agree with it, that doesn't make you right. Arsehole.

Nasty and uncalled for

FMLpassthegin · 25/11/2022 13:16

So glad this has ended and you can put this behind you. Hopefully now your anxiety levels can come down a notch. Lucky Bruce to have had so much love.

Can't believe they didn't show after all this op. Pleased you have closure

RoyKeaneisRight · 25/11/2022 13:17

I remember reading your thread last year, I'm sorry you had to go through all that & for nothing 😔
Poor doggy 🐕 but he was lucky to have you looking after him at the end.

Bluekerfuffle · 25/11/2022 13:21

Aw, what a gorgeous dog. Sorry you had to go through all that stress and hassle. Glad it’s over.

Glitterbiscuits · 25/11/2022 13:27

I remember feeling baffled by your thread ( not your part OP, the 'opposition') and I'm glad it's over for you.
Bruce looks lovely. He ended his days with love.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 25/11/2022 13:35

A great result. You did your best for that beautiful dog, you should feel proud today, OP.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 25/11/2022 13:42

I would speak to a newspaper now op. Expose them.

barskits · 25/11/2022 13:48

If ever a thread on MN deserved to be picked up by the media, this could be the one.

Although you probably wouldn't want that OP, and just want to be able to forget it all now. You did a really kind thing, and for you to have had to go through all this, well, words fail me.

Jexi · 25/11/2022 13:49

Ah he was a beautiful dog OP.

I'm glad the whole thing is over with but sorry you've had to deal with 2 years of stress and worry.

Pebble21uk · 25/11/2022 13:51

You did a wonderful thing... I'm so pleased you can now just think about the happy memories.

WinterLobelia · 25/11/2022 14:11

I am so so so pleased to read your update. Thanks

BobLemon · 25/11/2022 14:19

Did you get your counter claim awarded them?

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 25/11/2022 14:37

I'm so glad this is finally over for you. What an ordeal for having done something so kind and out of compassion. RIP Bruce, you beautiful boy.

SweetSakura · 25/11/2022 15:03

I am so glad it is over, and do very sorry that you tried to do something kind and it backfired on you like this.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 25/11/2022 15:18

I am so pleased this is over now OP.

The rescue and their solicitor are despicable. Had the solicitor's firm not closed I was going to suggest a complaint to the SRA making baseless threats to litigants in person is very much frowned upon.

I hope that you will now consider exposing the rescue as a warning to others.

oakleaffy · 25/11/2022 15:33

@LostforWords2021
I’m so glad for you
Sadly some real rogues in the animal “Rescue “ world, just out for profits.
I’d go to press with this.

These awful “ Rescues” are only out for money.
The dogs are but pawns in their self serving greed.
