Just hoping I can get some advice please.
DP's work van broke down/blew up near the beginning of the first lockdown - it ended up needing a new engine. The work was done by a reputable garage who said it was repairable, that it would cost around £4k and that the work came with a year's warranty.
It took about two months, he got it back at the end of May 2020.
It cut out/broke down on the way back from the garage and several times in the days following so he took it back (it broke down again on the return journey).
They then said the fuel pump needed replacing, which was done, but it still kept breaking down.
Basically it's been back and forth to the garage that carried out the work because it continually cuts out. We've had oil leak out of it all over the drive.
When it first came back they hadn't secured the tray underneath which scraped along the drive and they "washed" it and must have left shampoo all over it in the sun and trashed the paintwork.
They've also been out also to look at it at his work when it's broken down there. The mechanic was vile and DP had to tell him to leave at one point he was so rude.
We then sent a registered letter before Christmas saying we were considering going to court/trading standards and asking for the van to be independently assessed for what was wrong with it.
It's now more than three weeks since the van was collected after it last broke down and the independent mechanic is now saying it's the fuel pump, which was replaced under warranty back in June.
But the people who supplied the fuel pump can't look at it until after the bank holiday - and he really needs it back now as his work has started again.
It's been back to the garage or this independent mechanic 11 times in total now since collected it in May 2020.
Oil leaks, fuel leaks, total loss of power, AA callouts etc. We can't go anywhere in it, including going away overnight for breaks, because it's not reliable as it could break down at any time.
Just wondered if anyone can advise where we go now please? County court? Trading standards? Solicitor's letter?
