Need our house painting but will need access from NDN drive

Our house is built right up to the boundary.

To paint the wall on one side the painter needs to set up his ladders on NDN driveway.

They are happy for him to have access to paint but It suddenly occurred to me what would happen if he dropped a can of paint and damaged something or even worse, fell and hurt himself or died 🥺

Who is liable for these things? The painter? Us? NDN?

Should I make sure I chose a painter that is insured? I have legal cover on our home insurance but is that enough?

Any advice would be appreciated

The painter should have his own insurance for these things. My dh is a painter.

I would ask to see the Painter's public liability insurance certificate and check it was in date before employing him to do the job.

They’re not employed by you - therefore you don’t have any liability.
