Any conveyancers? Changed my name by deed poll how do I change my title deeds?

I’ve finally got round to changing my name back to my maiden name. I own my house out right and need to change the title deeds but I just dont understand the forms to do this. They seem to be aimed at a conveyancer filling them out. Do I need to get a conveyancer or can I do it myself?

Can anyone help? Thank you

You don’t need a conveyancer to submit the form AP1 but you will need a solicitor/ other permitted verifier to verify your ID for the ID1 or ID3 form you need to submit to HM Land Registry with your form AP1 (plus Deed Poll or other evidence of your change of name).

There are temporary ways for a conveyancer or other non lawyer to check ID via video calls and then verify it. Check out the list of non lawyers who can verify your ID via this list at 1.3 of www.gov.uk/government/publications/temporary-changes-to-hm-land-registrys-evidence-of-identity-requirements-pg67a/practice-guide-67a-temporary-changes-to-hm-land-registrys-evidence-of-identity-requirements.

Do you know any friendly lawyers or anyone on this list who might verify your ID? Otherwise you don’t need a solicitor and there’s no HMLR fees for changing your name I don’t think.

Thanks for that, I did download the I’d form but wasn’t sure if I needed it. The AP1 form isn’t very user friendly but I’ll have a stab at it and maybe they can call me if it’s wrong!

This guidance note might help

www.gov.uk/government/publications/change-the-register-ap1/guidance-completing-form-ap1

And they’ll probably contact you via email if they need you to change anything (called raising a requisition)

Just in case anyone else wants help with this, you can tweet the HM Land registry and they’ll help you fill in the form!
