DH’s car screen wash won’t work. Car is just under two years old and under warranty. He had to wait two weeks for the garage to look at and repair it. He collected it yesterday afternoon, and it’s still not working, no sound even. I believe it’s a legal requirement for driving. He’s a key worker, so has to drive to work on Monday and Tuesday. Off on Wed. Where does he stand legally?

Why didn't he check it when he collected it? Are you sure it's not frozen water in the pipes. Just take a bottle or two of water in the car and wash down the windscreen as and when needed until fixed.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/windscreen-wipers-and-washers-on-road-vehicles/summary-of-the-requirements-for-windscreen-wipers-and-washers-on-road-vehicles

Is a good starting point.

I echo the PP that asked why was it not checked before taking the car away ? As you see it's a legal requirement - so the garage would need to explain why they were willing to let a car leave that wasn't street legal ?

Well, the garage have no power to stop it leaving but presumably they think it was working if it went in just for that specific fault?

OP - how come this wasn’t noticed on collection? For most people that would be the first thing they did as soon as they got in the car - failure would then mean getting out of the car and telling them to keep it till they fixed it. As for what to do now, get on to them and tell them it’s coming back and you expect a courtesy car to be available.

Thanks all. We went over there together in my car, and then left in my car after DH collected his keys. Then went shopping, and collected his car afterwards, by which time the service people had gone home. The sales people that were left said that the service people would contact him on Monday, by which time he’ll be at work, 15 miles from the garage. He leaves home at 7.15, and arrives back at 18.30, so no chance of getting a courtesy car. I’m so irritated that he didn’t check, but understand that you just trust them! At least it’s supposed to rain in the next two days.
