should we let friends stay in our house “on paper”?

so this friend is currently in another country under lockdown but he is still paying his rent for his house here. he wants to move out because he doesn’t want to pay rent for upcoming months but he also has to show an address in the UK to somewhere for some legal matter (related to visa I think - not a criminal case). so he asked if he can show our home as his address, like we rented him a room. Do we face any problems if we say yes to him?

I would imagine that lying about place of residence in order to fulfil visa requirements would be a criminal offence. I wouldn't want to get wrapped up in this at all.

I wouldn't do it if the only knowledge you've got of what it's for is 'something visa related I think'. You've no way of knowing the penalties unless you know what he's using your address for.

He's just going to have to put up with the rent. If his visa issue is so important then a few months rent (which isn't a surprise, he would've had to pay this) is worth paying for.
Would you be receiving his post, does he owe debt?
