Release of bond after death of tenant

Deep breath. My tenant died last summer and I agreed to release the estate without giving notice so I could get the property back. The property was dirty, the garden overgrown, there were missing curtains, smoke damage and lots of other issues.
The family agreed to full release of the bond (this did not cover what was needed to restore the property) and in return I have signed a letter agreeing to not seek any further monies against the estate and then expected the bond to be released.

I have had no response from the solicitors handling the Estate. I was advised by the legal helpline associated with the insurance at the time to complain, I was told by the solicitors I cannot complain as I am not their client, I was also told by them you can try the Legal Ombudsman but they probably won't take your complaint as you are not our client, they won't tell me when probate might be granted as I'm not a client. I have been told I have to wait for Probate for the bond to be released. Can anyone advise me if this is correct or indeed tell me if there is anything I can do.
