Can you be furloughed and work on a voluntary basis?

DSis works for a charity which can't afford to keep her on at the moment, so she's being furloughed. She's worried about the people she helps and wondering whether she can basically just carry on as a volunteer whilst still receiving furlough pay. Does anyone know the answer?

I think you are allowed to volunteer (if it’s possible) but she should ask about insurance and whether volunteers are covered by this. She needs to talk to her employer about social distancing and whether the place of employment is actually closed. It might not be possible to volunteer.

OP here's the section on the furlough guidance about volunteering

My understanding of this would be that your DSis would be providing services to the organisation if she's essentially volunteering to cover her own job.
