What to do when named solicitor in will has ceased trading

My dad very suddenly passed away yesterday, I only found him this afternoon. I am absolutely reeling.

His will is outdated now (early 90s) and he wanted to change it, but too late now. My question is the solicitor is named as a co-executor but the solicitor died years back and his firm closed. So who do I contact?

As an aside, the co-executor is an old acquaintance of my dad who we haven't seen in years. She is in ill health. So both executors are shaky in different ways.

Any advice? I'm on my own with this as my mum died 6 months ago.

I’ve no idea but I’m so sorry for your loss Flowers

I think the law society steps in when a firm closes and record/old files get passed to a different firm but I don't think the executor role would pass to them

There are various ways that other people can act in place of an executor to cover this type of scenario.

The co-executor could appoint an attorney.

PM me if you want further info x

Also sorry for your loss. It's hard enough dealing with grief when you have worries about the paperwork. There are people who can help, you just need to ask 💐

Many thanks.
