Paid finance in full but no car

My OH defaulted on his car finance repayments and the car was repossessed (stupid I know!). They wouldn't accept anything other than full payment, so in order not to lose the car, we pooled resources and paid in full.

This was over 2 weeks ago and we still don't have the car. The car was taken to an auction site about a 4 hour round trip away. A pain to get to but we realised we had no choice. Following payment, the car was moved (I guess due to lack of communication between the solicitors and the auction house) to a site the other end of the country to us and put up for sale.

We complained and it was removed from sale. They said they would transfer the car back to the previous site. It now appears that the furthest site has said the car is no longer with them, but the closer site doesn't have it either.

We have been chasing the solicitors, car finance company and auction sites daily but are just sent round in circles. We've paid out in full but do not have a car and no real idea where it is. Who should take responsibility for this and is there anything else we can do?

Any help gratefully received.

Your contract is with the car finance company. They should take responsibility.
