Does anyone know about planning permission and/or hours for commercial noise please?

That is can a unit used as a financial institute or a shop where food is not consumed on the premises to a restaurant or cafe?

Second question is are there English laws on commercial noise in a residential area, I.e drilling, hammering etc on a connecting residential wall?

Grateful for any response.

I’d suggest that your first stop should be your local Planning Enforcement Officer.

As long as it’s below a certain size, planning permission wouldn’t be needed any more.

A shop (class A1) or a financial institution (class A2) can convert to A3 (restaurant or café) without planning permission for up to 3 years. Smaller premises (less than 150sqm) can convert permanently without planning permission.

There are no specific laws about commercial noise in a residential area but there are laws about noise which may apply. Talk to your local council.
