Want to divorce but don't know where to start..

Hi Everyone,

I have decided that I want to divorce my husband. We own a place with mortgage and I want to move out, so either sell the place or he can stay there. However, I was wondering if council would help me get a new place to start on my own? I work part time/ full time through agency. I wouldn't be able to afford private rent, unless for a small apartment, but my job is not something that is constant (I am new in my profession, so don't earn much and full time here is 6 hours, paid 5.5h). I got an offer from a friend to work part time at their place in a couple of months (which would be something different to my profession, less paid, but at least a stable job).
I don't want to stay here, in our current place. I need a change and so does my child. But because we own the place, I thought that maybe council wouldn't help me because of it.

Would I get any help? I feel trapped. I don't want to stay with my husband only because I am afraid of the financial situation. If I would know that I could get some help to start with.

Thank you for your help.

Most councils don’t have properties for divorcing couples. You need to see a solicitor for advice and in order to protect your assets. You need the capital from the house, if there is any.
