Accused of damaging a car

I got an email from an insurer claiming I opened my car door into another, damaged the car and drive off.

My son was in the passenger side. His door was partly open and as he went to pull it closed he swung his door a bit wider out. I am (and always have been) paranoid about them bashing car doors so I jumped out and went round to check. There was a bash in the other car door but it didn't line up with where our door would have opened. I didn't hear or feel a bash, it was just my paranoia about bashing doors that made me get out and check when I saw him swinging his door out. I genuinely didn't think we had caused any damage so I drove away. But there is CCTV in the car park so now I am convinced I will look like I am checking, realising the damage is there and running away. That is genuinely not what happened.
Now I am wondering if it was us, did I just not check carefully enough? Did I drive away from the scene of an accident? Will I be in trouble? My husband says I am being dramatic and I won't be in any trouble. But I am so anxious it's ridiculous. I think we should just say it was us, pay and make it go away but DH is determined we should not pay.
Will there be any criminal consequences to this? Again DH says not to be ridiculous but I can't help myself. If I was anxious about car doors before I am a million times worse now.

If you want to go to the nth degree the cars can be analysed to see whether there is a trace of paint transference.

Their insurer should deal with your insurer. Don't admit/deny anything, just speak to your insurance company, it's what you pay premiums for
