Wear and Tear - rented property - been in over 11 years

Hi,

Moving out of a rented property that I've been in for over 11 years. In all that time the landlord (through Letting Agency) has done no decoration or repairs.

Anyway - the house came with wooden blinds - with string draws. Virtually everyone has had the string broken and no longer work. I've taken the down when they break and put them in storage.

Would this count as 'wear and tear" (so no charge) or 'damage' (so deductible from deposit ?)

Advice welcome !

It depends. Did you tell the agency each time something broke and provide evidence I.e photos? If you did and the landlord chose not to repair or replace then it would be unfair to deduct your deposit. however if you just took them down and put them away it's possible it could be seen as damage

After 11 years I would imagine it would be a lot of wear and tear, particularly if they werent new when you moved in.

Watching as I know this can and does often go pear shaped.
