Foreign police check for new job...

Not sure if this is the right place to post and I don't even know what advice I'm looking for.

I've been offered a new job which requires police checks from countries I've lived in for the last 7 years.

I filled out the forms and paid the fee to the embassy of this country. It was received and all correct at the end of November. They said it would take 3 weeks to process.

They didn't post it to the country until 14th December. They had a 2 week Christmas break.

The police clearance still isn't ready.

I've left my old job and can't start this one until the police clearance is done.

So I'm losing earnings and I'm so worried that my new job offer can be revoked if this clearance doesn't come through soon.

Any advice? I feel sick with anxiety.

All you can do is chase the foreign police.

Depending on the role, you can ask if they would let you start on restricted duties - under supervision of a fully checked member of staff, or on other tasks which don't fall under regulated activity.

They don't have to let you start without the check though. If the check is in a foreign language will you have to get it translated too?

I've been chasing the embassy everyday.

New job won't let me start at all until I have this police check.

If you were still living in the country in question, how would you go about getting the required paperwork? Is it possible for you to apply directly to the agency involved rather than through the embassy?

I did try that as we still have friends there. Unfortunately it all has to go through the incompetent embassy.

The embassy did send me a letter stating that the certificate had been issued and I have no convictions etc but we're still awaiting the document. My new job are going to let me start the induction process and possible supervised work until the actual certificate has been delivered.

It cost a lot of money. What an absolutely awful service that has cost me two weeks wages.

Is this a civil service post? It's notorious for horrendous delays. Could you ask if they would be prepared to let you start 'on risk'? Have they started BPSS checks yet?

New job are doing a risk assessment next week so I can do supervised sessions.

I'm so relieved. I was sick with anxiety that they'd revoke the job offer.

Still need to chase up the police check though.
