Can any recorded interview with DWP be used in court?

My partner had a letter last week from the DWP benefit fraud team. We do not claim benefits and we’re confused about it and worried to say the least!!! He did used to employ people so we assumed someone had lied saying they were not working and tried to get benefits or something along those lines, so he went to the appointment and they told me they would be recording this interview but it was not about him at all! Turns out an ex from years ago told the DWP they had broken up and she was a single parent to her children from a previous relationship, when Infact he was still living with her and working full time!! This went on for some years from 2013 up until 2016!! They asked him if he lived there during this time he said he did indeed and worked full time and had no idea about any of this!! They asked him if he would give evidence against her in court and also give a statement, He said he didn’t want to get involved and would not go to court.... could they use his recorded interview against his ex In court?
