Do I have a legal standpoint against my work?

Hi all, this is just a quick one.

Basically my work has installed spikes over the one way exit to stop people entering a few weeks back.

Last night as I was driving out (the correct way) the spikes burst one of my tyres. I didnt realise until futher home I got. My car had to be taken to the dealership and I am waiting to find out how much the repairs will be (definately the tyre but possible the wheel too)

Just wonder could I get my work to pay for this?
I have a dashcam so it shows my driving and I was speeding or going the wrong way and it also shows when it happened because my car stalled.

I have to pay for parking at my work as well as a side note.

Thanks all.

Yes I would definitely ask for them to pay for this.

Thank you sally. Just a bit nervous with this

I would definitely ask them to investigate the malfunction.

Was the tyre legal in terms of tread? These have s history of popping balding tyres.

Yeah the tyres are legal. Its a brand new car. I've spoken to them this morning and they have said its impossible for the spikes to have done it but i have 2 cuts on the side of my tyre and on the alloy itself. Surely it cannot be something i can pick up on the road?

If you stalled on the spikes it's possible your car went backwards slightly when it happened causing the damage. No idea where you stand legally though.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 06/12/2018 09:31

BrokenWing probably has it then; if the tyres are fine, did you stall on the spikes?

Footle · 06/12/2018 10:15

Do you have AA or RAC cover, or something similar? I think they have legal departments who should be able to advise you.

YellowMellow15 · 06/12/2018 17:31

Didnt stall on the spikes but did stall after i cleared them. There is an odd noise on my dashcam when i go over the spikes though and a bump. The mechanic cannot tell what caused the puncture though.

Ask if you work can contact their insurers about it too. You may find they can cover it that way

Rockchick1984 · 06/12/2018 17:49

Is it a front or rear tyre that was damaged?

Check if work has CCTV over that area too as it might show the spikes not working properly.
