Can we get rid of Dad's car before probate is sorted and how long does it take?

My dad just died and seeing his car in the drive is a punch in the guts to all of us everytime we see it.We just want it gone. Mum,my sister and I are executors of his will and everything is going to mum so it should be straight forward. Just had a horrible realisation that we've got to wait until probate has finished. How long will that be?He left us a step by step guide to doing everything so it should be straight forward,

I'm sorry for your loss. When my dad passed I sold his car within about a week so well before probate was sorted. I think I just needed the relevant documents. I sold it back to the place he bought it from and they knew him so don't know if that made a difference. It is all a bit of a blur tbh but it's definitely possible

So long as the sale is properly documented, is a fair market value and the proceeds are placed into the estate, should be fine.

I'm no expert but don't recall probate being an issue when my mum died, as my dad was still around.
When mil died, however, as a widow, we had to wrap up her estate and everything was frozen. So, she had loads of brand-new clothes, labels still on, that we couldn't return as any refunds needed to go back onto the bank card they'd been bought with and those accounts were locked down. Can't remember how we sorted that in the end but it was a pain.

We sold our Dad's car for the same reason, just added the proceeds to the estate.

so sorry. Be aware that if he was the main policy holder the insurance.has stopped so named drivers cannot drive it either. If you.can face it, contact the insurers.

we buy any car will pay you peanuts but it will go.
