Builder not providing paperwork for insurance company

So we had some emergency roof work done outside our insurance. We had to get the work started without permission of the insurance company. We have had to pay for it all ourselves and intend to try to get reimbursed by the insurance company.

Our builder says he has the paperwork but hasn't sent it to us. I'm getting worried he won't give it us.

Can we go to small claims court for the paperwork? Has anyone else been in this situation?

TIA

Sorry. Why did you HAVE to start the work without insurer approval? Do you have photos of the original problem pre-repairs?
Surely the only paperwork involved here would be an insurance claim form from the insurer, validating photos and any consequential damage and itemised receipts from the contractor?

I hope you at least informed the insurer before instructing the contractor, otherwise I think you'd be on weak grounds to make any kind of retrospective claim for repairs.

We had informed the insurer, it was a Saturday and they wouldn't come immediately. We had a whole in the roof and it was raining.

I'm not sure if the insurance company will reimburse us. I'm concerned that we don't have the full paperwork which details all the work done. We do have some photos of the damage and the ongoing work.

Finally got the paperwork today. Now just need to deal with the insurance company.
