Think I've walked into this, and feel really cross, but just wondered if anyone could suggest a plan to help.

Ds bought a designer tee shirt on line. Expensive. Didn't fit. He said it's ok I'll sell it at a profit, as apparently hard to get.
I put it on eBay for him at an inflated price.
It didn't sell ( was Expensive) and after a couple of goes we had a message from someone to say he would do a deal...
They contacted each other on Instagram and agreed to swap the tee for a bag.. Equal value At least.
We agreed we would both send recorded delivery.
He's had mine. We haven't had his.
I know. I feel a mug. He's sent a copy of the receipt but the Transaction number isn't the track and trace number. And now he's not responding to my messages over eBay. Feel gutted for son as has cost his £50 birthday money.
So, I could message and appeal to his better nature. Send the bag, return the tee etc. Send money. Or is there anything else I can do... Is it fraud ? Can I send some legal jargon to scare him (guessing he's a teen). I know I'm probably just going to put it to bed and never trust again, but feel i need try something first.

If they genuinely sent it by recorded delivery the receipt contains the reference number you need for tracking purposes. It may be labelled "barcode" or "reference". It should also show the building number and postcode. These should match your address. If they do, either this person has faked the receipt or they genuinely sent something.

It doesn't show these. A transaction number. Some of the receipt blacked out. I input it in Royal Mail and it's nothing. He got mine on Thursday so it should be here now.

Sounds like a dodgy receipt, ask for the full receipt and send a screenshot of it not registering on the royal mail site.

Sent him a pleasant message saying I hope he's not messing me about. As not fair on son. I said message me by 10pm tonight or I will be taking legal advice tomorrow. I said return the tee and I will refund postage. It's theft really in my eyes.

Write it off as a lesson learned. You will just be wasting more time.
