Sorry - bit of a long one!
Three months ago I returned from a weekend away to find 'someone' had sealed up my entire porch other than the front door with asbestos warning tape. I rang my landlord straight away, obviously distressed, as this is a huge outdoor storage space that houses the boiler, fuse box, lawnmower ... you get the idea. It's an area I'm in and out of constantly. The electrics trip quite frequently, so not having access to the cupboard is a huge issue.
My main gripe, isn't that I have been exposed to it, but that NO ONE told me about it. Nothing verbal, or in writing anywhere. I called several times and raised a complaint with the letting agency that lease it out on LL behalf. Still nothing has been done. All I get is the odd call saying they still don't know anything!
Nothing has been done. No one has any idea what's going on. I can't access any of my belongings in there, and I'm moving in a couple of months. The grass is up to my armpits, and I'm restricting what sockets I use in the house because I have no idea what will happen if I trip the electrics. I've been told under no circumstances can I go in the cupboard area.
I want to write some sort of letter giving a deadline for this to be sorted, or I'll seek legal advice. But I'm not sure it's even illegal!
Essentially, LL has not informed me of asbestos risk, it's withholding my possessions from me, and causing me distress. But I don't know if any of this would be grounds for seeking legal advice
I don't want to sue anyone, just scare them into sorting it or at least giving me some answers! Everyone is being so evasive.
Any advice?
