Do housing association have an obligation to provide us with a functional bathroom

This is massively outing as my family and friends know about this.

I'll try and keep it brief but include all relevant information.

There's me, dh and 3 ds (4, 2 and 5months). We recently did a house swap as we needed a bigger house and it was the only way to get a house and stay in the town we live in. The bathroom was old and a bit mouldy, weirdly had been papered which was hanging off the walls, plaster was crumbling and didn't have a shower. We asked the ha if they would replace it they said it wasn't due for another 10 years. My grandad generously offered to loan us the money to do the bathroom ourselves. We got permission and hired a builder etc. He came the other day and started work. He pulled the tiles off around the bath and uncovered a huge hole that had been filled with tile adhesive and then covered with tiles. We've Been using a shower attached to the taps (and I turns out the previous tenants had too) water has been getting behind the tiles and running into the wall. The builder immediately stopped work and told us to contact the ha.
I rang them and explained the situation and was told that as we ripped the tiles off it was our responsibility to put it right. After being passed from person to person they finally sent someone to inspect it and they agreed that as the integrity of the wall was in question its the ha responsibility to fix. We cant use the bath or shower until its fixed as it will obviously make the situation worse. The ha have given us a repair date of march 3rd. We are currently crashing at my parents 3 bed house where my parents, grandad (with serious medical issues), brother and his girlfriend all live so now there's 10 of us all on top of each other. We have asked repeatedly for them to move the repair forward but they keep saying theres nothing they can do. Does anyone know where we stand? Obviously once the repair is done we still need to have the new bathroom fitted which extends the time we can't use the bathroom.

Wondered why you cant continue to use the bath? I'm assuming it isn't leaking and that it's the problem with the wall that's the issue. You'd obviously need to be careful but that sounds preferable to living in an overcrowded house
I'd move back into my own home and bath at friends / family if using your own bath is impossible.

I think legally, they only have to provide a working toilet while repairs are ongoing. During works the toilet is usually connected for overnight use. The thinking is, have access to the kitchen sink to wash, brush teeth etc.

Why can’t you use the bath?

ApacheEchidna · 16/02/2018 07:48

If the loo works, move back in and buy temporary membership of a nearby gym/swimming pool/health club and visit daily for washing. It's only 2 weeks to the beginning of March. You can cope.

Could you use bath carefully or maybe a friend's house close by could lend you there's. My bathroom took an age to fit as my dad did it for me as I own my property. I got by with using other people's bathrooms to wash in. It does unfortunately take time to book in works to be done. I'm glad they are doing it for you and make sure they repair everything as it may save money on replacing the bathroom

3rd march is in 2 weeks which is pretty good going for ha.
but yes the ha should maintain a bathroom and they should offer other washing opportunities, like a pass for local leisure centre.

Ha have sent out an inspector who are bringing in an emergency repair team today as the while wall is unstable due to the damage so it is being done but it is a massive risk apparently so its a good thong we haven't been staying there.
