Landlord selling but I have no where to go

Myself, Husband and DC live in a privately rented house, have done for 3 years.
Our contract runs out in 3 weeks and the Landlord is selling. Been given a section 21(?)
The problem is that to rent another private house we need a landlord reference. He has given 2 but has stated (honestly) that although the rent is up to date, it's never been paid on time.
So estate agents have turned us down flat, even with a guarantor.
I've got no family or friends nearby. Eldest DC is supposed to start school in September
What do I do?

Ask him to be nice and supply you with another, less complete, reference, one that sply states you have never fallen behind on the rent.

Tell him how hard his absolute honesty has been for you to find A N Other place to rent.

But be prepared for him to say no, any future landlord deserves to know the truth.

Good luck.

I'd point out that if you can't move, then you won't be leaving conveniently on the date the notice expires, as you have nowhere to go. Your only option would be to be rehoused by the council, and for that he would need to get a court order, followed by bailiffs etc to actually evict you. Which will take time and quite likely put the buyers off.
Or he could reword his reference to enable things to proceed smoothly.

Thank you. He has always been very reasonable and a good, honest Landlord.
Unfortunately DH has been rather rude to him tonight and has cancelled all viewings for prospective buyers. Not sure I'll be able to sweet talk him now!
Not sure that I would want to anyway, it's not fair on the next landlord
Looks like we are going to have to go the council route Sad

Try him. Tell him DH was rude as you had just been turned down by another agent.. would he reconsider?

You never know.

But do try the council anyway.

JonSnowsBeardClippings · 17/05/2016 19:47

Why is your rent always late?

iMatter · 17/05/2016 19:55

I would get on the phone, apologise, reinstate the viewings and explain the problems you're having and see if you can work things out.

CodyKing · 17/05/2016 20:06

and has cancelled all viewings for prospective buyers

You don't have to allow viewings

Ring LL and explain you are trying but have been turned down due to his reference - see if he will give you another one - so you have a better chance at being homes

It will benefit him too

I think you need to do as pp says, call back and sincerely apologise, reinstate viewings and arrange to come to an agreement.
