Hi, my daughter wa born in America when we lived there five years ago. We have now returned to the UK and her American passport expires in January. Does anyone know if we need to renew her passport or if we are ok to let it expire and she will still have citizenship when she is an adult?

She will have citizenship

If you want her to travel to the US then you need to renew her passport
If you have no travel plans then you can let it expire and renew when you wish to travel there

You don't lose citizenship just because your passport expires!

However, as far as I know, a lot of countries insist on you travelling into them on that country's passport if you have that country's citizenship. I have a feeling I've read that the US is one of them.

You'd best check with the US authorities, but I think she might need a US ppt if you intend travelling there.

Longer term you need to understand the legal requirements that will be placed on your DD by her citizenship. Esp in respect of the FATCA of 2010. Not an issue if u expect that she will want to return & live to the states in the future, but there have been a few threads on this subject recently.
