My nephew is coming to live with us. What do I need to do?

My nephew is coming to live with us for 2 years to do his A levels. He is 16. My sister lives overseas and my nephew will be living with us during term time and flying home for the holidays.

I will register him with the doctor we use, but what else do we need to do? In an emergency, would I be able to give consent for an operation, for example, if he was unable to do so? Can he be added to the electoral roll?

Any information or advice gratefully received!

What is his nationality?

Sorry, I should have said that. He is British.

You'd need a letter of consent from his parent that you could show medical staff.

You don't need to inform the LA because you are close family, so it isn't considered private fostering.

There is now an online system for voter registration. He can register himself at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Thank you. That's really helpful.
