Hi, wondering if anyone has experience/advice on applying for divorce in Scotland through a solicitor. I am unable to use the simplified procedure as have children under 16. I am on income support and was told I would qualify for legal aid however solicitor has asked to see bank statements. A friend said she thinks any savings I have will count against me and I do have some savings of a few thousand pounds as emergency money as im in private rental so for deposit etc. Does anyone know If I can no longer apply?

Savings will affect entitlement, depends how much you have. There is a calculator that you can use, complete details of your income and savings, and it tells you whether ot not you are likely to be eligible or not.

Thank you

I looked at the calculators on the website but there is 2 the one for legal aid says capital is irrelevant if you receive benefits the other for advice and assistance says it is considered, not sure which one I'd need. The savings I have are purely to help with future deposits and rent if I need to move on again so hesitant to spend it. Any idea how much an uncontested divorce is likely to cost if I do have to pay. It's all straight forward no financial matters or anything to consider
