old job have lost a my dyslexia report.

I recently left employment by company A. And joined company B . My new job requested my dyslexia report to taylor my new job to my needs. I requested it back of my old company and they say they have lost it. Am i within my rights to tell them they have to pay for a new one which would mean a re assesment as ive had it longer than the time scale they keep them for. Or do i have to suck up the 500 cost for this again.

Did you not keep a copy of it yourself?

I think you're within your rights to ask for them to pay for a re-assesment,although I imagine it will be a long process to get them to cough up.If you originally paid for the report though,it is your property so they will have to replace/reimburse.

I'd approach them calmly first though,rather than with all guns blazing.

Ive had it since 2006 and never had this issue before every employment ive had have handed it back when i left straight away. Or before if they have taken a copy of it themselves.

Can't you request another printed copy from your Educational Psychologist, assuming you still have the contact details?

It was 9 years ago, they dont have it still.

You should have kept a copy independently. It isn't for the company to do so. How long have you worked for them?

What do you mean by "longer than the time scale"?

If you mean that you need it to be periodically reviewed, then yes, you may as well pay for a new one as one is due.

(and only ever send out copies, not originals, in future).

And I'd also keep on at the EdPsych - it's really unusual for one not to keep their reports, as requests for copies are so common, so it's worth asking for them to check again.

I had a dyslexic test done 18 years ago and I was positive. Problem is living allowance depends kept my paperwork and now I haven't got a report

It would depend on who did the assessment and what their data retention policy is.

Unless there's a legal requirement to keep them they probably won't have.

If you sent it to your GP it should be on your medical file, so you could request a copy through a subject access request.

It does seem strange - central records are kept of some things, like exam results and driving licenses, so I think the assumption is that the state will keep a record of disability assessments, but the responsibility may be on the individual (for people with ADHD or dyslsxia, the executive function to manage this is lacking, so it feels like a bit of a flaw in the plan!)
