Hi there,

We left his property mid-March and left it in great condition as expected of us after only staying 1 year. We left his property because he was a bully and talked to us like crap. We provided all the document he needed and he finally agreed to give us back our deposit in a mail he sent us 10 days ago. We still didn't get it, we mailed him, he doesn't get back to us. What do we do ?

Shall I call him at work demanding for our deposit back ? Shall I harass him until I get answers ?

It's up to you, I would call him - but remember he is not your friend - chances are if he thinks he can get away with holding your deposit he will.

If the DPS is unable to contact the tenant within a couple of weeks then they will return the deposit to the landlord if he claims it. I'm guessing the DPS were unable to contact you OP? Did the DPS tell you that they had returned the deposit to the landlord?

We went to arbitration (I'm sorry, I can't remember who with), and I can't remember how long they said it might take, but it took 3 weeks from me filling in the dispute form, to the disputed amount arriving in my bank account (the undisputed amount had been transferred almost immediately by my agent)

A bit of an update - he finally got back to us at lunch time, he said he doesn't understand why we don't have the money yet, he said he was going to check with his bank to see if there was a problem.

Have you got it yet? I put my tenants' deposit in the DPS. And when they leave I will give it them back via this scheme. Last 2 flats my daughter rented had this scheme too but I do remember the insurance based one too. Too much hassle for me.

We got it back on Saturday...apparently he had made a mistake at the bank explaining why we didn't get it earlier.

Great news although I don't believe his story for a moment well done.
