Freehold house, leasehold garage. Trying to sell

Does anyone know whether I should have a copy of documents related to the management of my garage? I bought the property new from the builders. I was supposed to pay a peppercorn rent of £1 per year, but never been asked for it. I'm selling the property and the management company that apparently bought the lease from the builder have demanded £150 before they will release any documents to my solicitor regarding the lease. Is this legal? It certainly doesn't feel fair.

The management company have you over a barrel I'm afraid. Our house is freehold and we had to pay £800 for a letter of permission for our entirely above board loft extension, so you're getting off lightly. They charge as much as they think they can get away with without it being so appalling that it's worth your while taking them to court, where they would quite possibly lose. Annoying, but you'll just have to take it on the chin.
