Do I have to pay these legal costs?

We bought a BTL flat less than 6 months ago. We used a very rigorous solicitor who had endless problems with the management company. The sale took 6 months.

I called the management company for the first time a week or so ago to ask for a new swipe key and found they had the previous owners address on file. They updated it on their system and now we have received a 'notice of impending legal action' with over £600 in legal fees for late payment/management cost. Obviously the previous letters have gone to the previous owner's address.

Obviously I am keen to speak to them but it's Sunday. Who should notify the management company of the new address? Surely this would have happened during the sale?

I would really appreciate advice from anyone more knowledgable on this stuff.

Normally the Managing Agents obligation is to send the correspondence to the actual property unless they are advised by the owner to send it to a different address

Sorry posted too soon If I was you I would send them a cheque for the total less late fees etc and say the cheque is in full and final settlement due to you not having received the previous accounts They might ask why you did not realise you weren't paying management charges..

Thanks very much Rangirl and Sleepy. I will check with my solicitor but I'm sure she would have notified them - she is very efficient and was massively on their case to get some documents that took months to arrive.

We only exchanged in April, so it is not that unlikely that we wouldn't have had an invoice for maintenance.
