If born in Scotland, would baby get a Scottish passport?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm due in April and it has just occurred to me to wonder this. If Scotland votes Yes tonight, and if I leg it over the border in April to give birth in Scotland instead of where I live in England, would my baby automatically get Scottish nationality?

There are Scottish relatives on both sides, DP's mum is Scottish but has lived in the UK for many many years, but we wouldn't be able to actually move to Scotland ourselves for the foreseeable future.

Of course the rules probably aren't even written yet, but can anyone speculate at all, maybe based on how it works in other countries?

This Scottish Goverment document gives the intention that all born in Scotland and holding British nationality, even if living abroad on Independence Day, will be entitled to Scottish citizenship.

No guarantees until they actually enact it though! Will you be entitled?

No, I was born in England so I miss out.

Actually I'm not sure if that document means that one of the child's parents would have to be a Scottish citizen for them to automatically get citizenship if they aren't already born by Independence day but are born afterwards.

Oh wait but DP's mum I assume was born there, so she could get citizenship and then so could DP which would give baby the right too, whoop! And looks like I won't have to actually travel there to give birth either. Awesome

Ah what a shame. Still, give it another ten years and we'll see what a younger generation make of it. Perhaps my baby will get to vote next time :)
