Can I cancel contract for fitted kitchen - just read reviews about the company - now worried sick

Does anyone know if I can cancel the order for a kitchen that I am supposed to be having in October.

I've just been on a review website and apparently the company runs scams under various names. I know I should have checked before I paid the deposit, but I didn't.

There is no VAT number or company registration number on the contract. They only take cash or bankers draft.

I can't believe I didn't check this stuff. I've gone past the cooling-off period - is there anything I can do?

yes you can but you will defitnly forfeit your deposit or down payment as you would be in breach of contract (after cooling of period) and if they were bad they could actully chase you up further for costs they may of made in relastion to your order in the courts and they are most likely win as well so be careful

Get in touch with the Trading Standards office at your local council. They will be able to advise. Do this as soon as is possible. Do you have an invoice, quote or receipt? Keep bank statements, go armed with the facts.

Thanks for your replies. I have the original design plan, but there's not much information on it.

I will contact trading standards today. Apparently the company director is a known scam artist -i'm so annoyed with my self for not checking out reviews before I committed to the kitchen.

how much deposit have you paid? I should think that when you cancel, you let them know that you have been to trading standards and taken their advice. That should put the wind up them and theyshould leave you alone.

I paid £100 deposit. I know I've said goodbye to that if I am able to cancel, but rather that that thousands.

I've tried to email the company, but all the emails bounce back as undeliverable - even more worried now.

Am I allowed to name the company on here, to see if anyone else has had dealings with them?

Yes do. Count yourself lucky it was £100 not thousands.
I'm always wary of those billboard signs advertising " natural wood" kitchens from £700.
Find a small independent fitter, ask friends and neighbours. The kitchen is only as good as the person installing it.

It's kitchen design Lancashire. Also known by various other names. Is there anyone out there that has anything positive to say about them?

Blue - I don't know if I have only lost the deposit yet, can't get hold of the company to cancel. Can I just refuse delivery when and if it turns up, or is that breach of contract?

They take payment by cash or bankers draft when they deliver.

I've emailed trading standards, they aim to reply within three days, hopefully with some useful advice.

Get down to your local council office and speak to them or at the very least phone them . A warning, they do talk a lot of technical/legal jargon. Ask them to speak in layman's terms.
