Child maintenance payments at end of court order

My exh pays maintenance payments for our DC as per the court order following our divorce.
My solicitor advised at the time that the terms of the court order only lasts for a year with regards to maintenance payments and that after that exh can just stop paying.
Our DC is 15 and still has 3 years of education left.
Exh refuses to speak to me at all not even in writing and has behaved very badly towards all our DCs.
If I need to go to CSA after the year is up do I need to go to them in advance of the court order ending or do I have to wait?
How do these things normally work please?

If you claim before it seems you would invalidate your court order but be aware aware they will not back date any claim. Also beware that if your husband agrees to pay directly to you as encouraged by the CMS and you drop your claim at their suggestion, and your husband then does not pay, then any new claim is not backdated to the original date you claimed for reasons only known to them. I am not one of their biggest fans!!
