How can we check whether the house we have recently purchased was burgled?

We have been informed by our neighbours who is a policeman and a few other people locally that the house we recently purchased was burgled a year or so ago. I found out due to noticing windows had been forced with a screwdriver and also the front door has damage when you look closely (around the seal and lock).

The vendor is denying it and the allegation makes up part of a claim that is ongoing at the moment. How do I investigate if the theft had a crime number/insurance claim?

Strange , when we bought it was one of the questions asked along with any neighbour disputes etc

There should be a case number. There is also a web site that lists things like that but only for your road, but it might give you a more specific time frame. Anyone know the site?
