Do you need a marriage certificate to start a divorce?!

I know I know dumb question of the year! I married abroad. Non EU. When h goes back to visit i ask him to collect one but never does well refuses. I can't just visit and even when we go the opportunities are never there. Am I trapped?

I don't think you need one to 'start' a divorce. I had lost mine and had to get a copy ( uk though).

you need to prove the marriage. The simplest and most basic kind of evidence is a marriage certificate. If you can't get a marriage certificate, how else can you prove that you were married to each other on that date?

Have you tried writing to the registry in the country where you married, to get a copy?
