Old planning enforcement investigation - how do I get details?

Hello

The council investigated a breach of planning at a neighbour's house before we moved into the area. Another neighbour has told us the council did nothing about it because the structure was legal - even though planning permissions had not been sought.

I would like to see the details of the investigation even though the case is now closed. Does anyone know whether it is within my rights to ask for this? And if so, how do I go about it?

Thanks for your help.

Write to the council and ask your questions. Say you want to know under the Freedom of Information Act.
They have to respond within 20 days, but they might redact other peoples personal data, even so you should get some answers.

Thanks for that. I'll give that a go.

Have you tried just calling and asking the Planning Department? Alternatively, our Council has a website you can search for Planning Applications/Decisions and, I am pretty certain, Enforcement Actions, too vested interest, neighbour problems ....! Our site is: .gov.uk/planning

Council planning dept will have a search option. Know we can check by address, brings up planning decisions

Hi, planning enforcement officer here! I'm not sure what more you're hoping to find out, it sounds like someone complained, the officer went out and determined that the structure was permitted development and closed the case. You won't be able to see the case online, only enforcement notices are in the public domain and they're only served when something is a real problem. Hope that helps!
