Can I find out details of what someone went to prison for?

My husband's brother, B, was sent to prison for downloading indecent images of children. We were told at the time that if B had any contact with our children (then under 7) social services would be contacted. Through a combination of family secrecy and us sticking our heads in the sand (of which I am ashamed) we have let the situation continue without fully understanding what happened - we live at the other end of the country so have no contact with B.

B is now making contact with my husband, who is showing signs of wanting to resume limited contact. I have feelings of hatred towards B. My children do not know he exists. I feel that to decide what to do next I need to understand what he actually downloaded, in terms of severity of images or number. Is there a way to find out details of a court case? Find detailed information? I have tried searching his name and address and also looking through newspaper websites from his local area.

Try googling The Law Pages. That may be of some help.

Please remember that the offences he was convicted of may only be a part of his offending behaviour
