Advice on Choosing a good family/divorce solicitor

LondonSuperTrooper · 27/02/2014 16:16

My husband and I are separating & want to divorce. How do I choose a good solicitor as there are several in my town? I am based in Ashtead, Surrey. The prices quoted here are v v expensive. Should I look for a solicitor in a less wealthy area? I'm clueless and I need someone to lookl after mine & DC interests.

Thanks.

Is legal aid an option for you? I choose a local solicitor that specialised with family resolution. Prices per hour was pretty much the same in all the firms in my area. Thankfully was able to get some legal aid. My solicitor invoiced me month by month so I could keep a track on everything and the the invoices were very detailed so I could see very phone call etc. Sorry can't be more helpful.

Thanks Susie. Unfortunately I am not entitled to legal aid.

I can't find Michelle Fitzpatrick at TWM. Her name doesn't come up.

I'll contact Venters and ask for their rates.

Thanks for your recommendations.

I can highly recommend Andrew Christmas at Downs solicitors in Dorking. Very experienced family solicitor and a partner in the firm

mumblechum1 · 08/03/2014 16:56

yy I had Andrew Christmas on the other side a little while ago and he was a really good guy, sensible and professional without the petty point scoring which a lot of junior lawyers indulge in.

MOSagain · 08/03/2014 20:16

Lol, he was my opponent on a number of children's matters a few years back and he ended up headhunting me. Always regret leaving that firm

LondonSuperTrooper · 09/03/2014 09:38

Thanks for the recommendations. Funnily enough, I've got him on my list :)
