Door to Door loan company has lent to my VERY vulnerable mum. £350 now £750 and she is frightened.

Just found out my mum has borrowed money from a loan company before Chritistmas, it was a cold call to her home. She borrowed £350 to pay fuel bills and buy presents for her grandchildren. She now has to pay back £750 due to APR. A "man" calls at her house once a week to collect her repayments. I have no doubt AT ALL she was hoodwinked into this. She is currently in hospital and is really poorly, we are waiting t find out if she has a tumor on her liver. She is really vulnerable and gullable at the best of times. But, she has been so poory for a few months now and cant even afford to heat her home or eat due to having to pay this debt. We only found out all this when BIL went to take her clean clothes in hospital and found the loan agreement. I am really sickend by this. My poor mum. I want to do horrid things to these company's who prey on vulnerble disabled people. She is also really frightened to go home once she leave hospital. She cant afford to pay but is seriously afraid. I havent a clue what to do, other than string him up by his balls!!!

call 101 the non emergency police number? if you think she's been defrauded; bumping as no other clue - citizen's advice? have you googled?
what a shame for her. they are evil gits who target frail folk.

I don't know either but my instinct would be to pay off the fuckers before they increase it any further.

Not sure if that is helpful though. They shouldn't get their hands on any of your money. But it might go up and up.

that is American but suggests you should report to police as this type of crime very underreported in general due to people being frightened / ashamed

Thankyou. Would be happy to pay the £350 just got get rid. But i want their bloody guts for garters!!! These people are not human!! Will call CAB tomorrow and see what we can do in terms of drafting a legal letter. Flipping vultures!!!

They are a bloody website that promotes Door to Door loan's as if they are doing people a favor. The website alone made we want to commit a serious crime cry!

Trading standards in my area have an illegal money lending officer they also liaise with the police and look into these type of people.

I made this mistake when very young, the repayments especially on cash are a joke and the woman used to barge her way into my house and take things as 'security' if I couldn't make that weeks payment.

They took over an amount that I owed another company but recently wrote to me saying they won't persue the debt further as it's over ten years old haha fuckers

I don't know what to say, personally I would ignore and let them keep writing threatening letters but I'm a bastard I would definitely contact trading standards and or CAB, haven't dealt with this for a long time so will see what else I can find out

Thanks BumpInTheNight Half tempted to intimidate the debt collector myself. Thing is my DM wont ignore. She really is so so vulnerable. If it was me, i would tell him take a long walk of a short cliffe go away please. What i want to do i phone and quote some legal stuff but not sure how too go about it. We have plenty of evidence that DM is vulnerable, VERY poorly etc etc. But, she is sooooo frightened to go home from hospital and this creature know where she lives. My poor dm prob doesnt have long left really.

If its provident the only wrong they have done is morally not legally. But on the plus side she doesn't need to be afraid they are a legitimate company. Best thing to do is pay them off .

There was a poster on here recently who said she knew of companies knocking on doors in impoverished estates just before Christmas, offering £250 food vouchers. "I'll just leave it here and if you don't use it, just hand it back next time I call."
