My sil moved in with her partner 5 years ago. Her gran gave her £20,000 to pay off his wife. Nothing was officially written or drawn up but my mil does have a letter signed by him to say that if they were to separate he would have to pay the money back. She has also been paying £200 a month towards bills etc
The relationship has now ended and the bungalow is up for sale. Sil seems to be under the impression that she has to stay living there until it sells so she can get her money back. The "relationship" is turning nasty. They both drink and she's accusing him of hitting her.
Can anyone help me? What are her rights? Is he obliged to pay her anything? Is the letter worth the paper it's written on? And does she have to stay there???
