Cooling off period for gym membership?

Was hoping that someone could help me, I've been a bit stupid!

In a moment of madness I signed up to my local Virgin Active club last Friday (1/3). Luckily I signed up for a flexible contract running from month to month which I can cancel with one months written notice. I paid the first months membership and a joining fee which came to £75 by credit card.

I am still recovering from having a rib removed three weeks ago, and this is likely to take some time yet, so I don't really know what I was thinking (I am putting it down to the large doses of morphine I'm on!).

The question I wanted to ask was is there a "cooling off" period (ie 14 days) for these types of memberships, or am I just going to have suck it up and pay another months membership before cancelling? They have not given me a copy of the terms and conditions, just a copy of the application form and direct debit instruction I completed.

Hoping some kind bod will know the answer! Thanks in advance.

I would look at the contract and then phone the head office, or go and speak to the manager at the gym and ask if they can put it on hold until you can go.

If you signed up away from home - someone with a clipboard etc then i think there may be a cooling off period

Have you actually had an opportunity to see the T&C? If not, they can't rely on them.

Not sure that helps you much on reflection....if the gym appeals in the future, once you have healed, perhaps you could try and suggest that the membership starts when you are fit.

Thanks all, have had a google and it looks like I'm going to have to pay for next months - I will write to them tomorrow and cancel.

Thanks again for your help, is much appreciated.
