Car damaged after px price agreed, but before new car collected

Where do we stand?

We agreed px price for old car and are waiting to take delivery of the new one. Meanwhile, the car has been damaged slightly - paintwork slightly compromised and a small dent.

Any advice on what to do? Or any experience of having done this? What did garage do?

get a quote for repair and then call the company you are buying off - see what reduction they offer and then decide which is least expensive.
When getting quote make sure they know it is not insurance paying

Someone might come along who is more up to date than me, or simply more knowledgeable (law degree was 1989) but I do recall that on the contract being agreed risk passes to the buyer. Of course if the damage is the fault of the seller they must make it good.

No experience of this but when we've traded in in the past the dealer hasn't even looked at the car before handing over the keys to the new one. I doubt a little dent will make any difference to trade in price. I wouldn't mention it.

Thanks for the help. We have a quote for the repair and are going to make it good before we get the new one.
